Dante

We’ve been hearing so much about chef Dante Boccuzzi recently, and had yet to make it to his restaurant in Tremont.  So we headed out with some friends a couple of weeks ago to check it out.  We really enjoyed Dante, and are anxious for the opening of chef Boccuzzi’s new restaurant in Akron.  It is scheduled to open in June where Chrissie Hynde’s VegiTerranean used to be.

We loved that the hand made pasta and risotto selections came in various sizes so we could try a few more things.  The portions were larger than we expected, and we’d probably stick to the tasting size if we were to get several dishes to try.

Polenta – Braised Beef Short Ribs and Carrots

He said…I’m a big fan of braised beef short ribs and was excited to try this dish.  The polenta had a beautiful creamy texture and was seasoned very well.  However, I was slightly disappointed in the short ribs, which did not have a lot of flavor.  Next time we visit, I will order the Three Cheese Polenta dish.

Risotto – Carnaroli with Truffled Mushrooms, crispy garlic, parsley

He said…This was my favorite dish of the evening.  The truffled mushrooms added a nice flavor and depth to the dish, and I really liked the crispy garlic in the risotto.  I could have had a big plate of this dish and would have been perfectly happy.

Spinach Cavatelli, creamy gorgonzola, toasted walnuts

She said…this was so delicious!  I would absolutely order this again.  The pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce was bold and creamy.

Linguine alla Carbonara, poached egg, house made pancetta

He said…The hand made pasta was fresh and cooked al dente.  The house made pancetta added a nice savory flavor to the dish.  Finally, the poached egg was cooked perfectly and gave the dish a great creamy texture.

Seared Scallops with Ginger Vinaigrette black rice risotto, shiitake, baby bokchoy

She said…I really enjoyed this dish as well.  The scallops were perfectly seared, I loved the black rice risotto, the ginger vinaigrette brought just the right amount of tanginess to the dish, and those mushrooms…I don’t think I’ve ever raved about a mushroom, but these were just fantastic!

Our server informed us that it was her first night, but we certainly wouldn’t have known it by the service.  After all of that food, we were too full for dessert!  Next time we’ll save a little room.
