We spent one afternoon of our trip to wine country checking out Sonoma. We liked the name of this place when we were looking for a place to have lunch, and once we looked at the menu we were sold. The Girl and the Fig is located in Sonoma right on the square. They have a great patio, and we took advantage of the beautiful day.
Cream of basil soup
On the menu under soup it simply says “from the garden to the stockpot” and this certainly had that fresh from the garden taste. It was silky and full of flavor.
Pork belly blt
He said…What’s not to like about this sandwich? It was a pork lovers dream! The pork belly was crisp on the outside and the rest just melted in your mouth. The restaurant does its own charcuterie which was evident by the quality of the bacon on the sandwich. The bacon was unlike anything you can get at the store. It was a perfect combination of salty and smoky.
She said…I loved everything about this place. This sandwich, though simple, was so delicious. The bread was amazing and the applewood-smoked ham and the st. george cheese were so fresh and tasty. I also love a place that pays as much attention to the side dish on a plate as the main attraction. This little salad was awesome.
We also stopped at Artesa Winery on the advice of some locals that said we shouldn’t miss the view.
We certainly enjoyed the view. The tasting room is nice and they have a nice outdoor area as well. The wines were good, but nothing really wowed us enough to purchase.
